Jarrod’s steady climb

The past weekend saw Jarrod once again taking on the highly competitive Junior Max class at the 3rd round of Northern Regions Karting championship. Qualifying didn’t go to plan for Jarrod as he just couldn’t get the kart to handle the way he wanted. This left Jarrod way back in the field in 12th position. Jarrod knew that it was going to be an uphill battle from that far back in the field. But as always Simon got to work right away making the changes they were hopeful would make the difference in getting Jarrod to the front of the pack. Race 1 saw Jarrod making steady progress making key passes and taking full advantage of fellow competitors making mistakes thus netting Jarrod 5th in race 1. Race 2 saw Jarrod hanging on to the top 4 drivers for the entire race when his fellow competitors got abit over aggressive and gifting him 2nd but Jarrod wasn’t done yet when he made a bold move in the pit corner to the lead of the race and hang on for the win. Race 3 saw a 9 kart battle for the lead with the lead changing almost every lap with Jarrod lying 4th going into the last lap he tried a move to try and get the lead back at the entrance to the double right which didn’t work and saw Jarrod sliding wide on the loose rubber which unfortunately dropped him to 7th across the line. A bold move that would have paid off if it wasn’t for the marbles on the outside of the corner. At the end of the day Jarrod walked away with 2nd overall and more valuable points in his quest to win the Junior Max Regional championship at the end of the year. But Jarrod is we’ll aware this will not be a easy task. In closing Jarrod would like to thank Simon, DAW RACING, Praga SA and dad Garth for giving him the tools to be at the sharp end of the field. Next up for Jarrod will be ROK Cup in the Mini ROK class at Zwartkops in which Jarrod can most likely wrap up the Mini ROK National title if he has another strong performance like the previous 2 nationals.
